Good display quality
TV viewing experience in almost every household has witnessed a major overhaul over the past few years. With the rise in 4K content offered by streaming services like Amazon and Netflix, the demand for 4K Smart TVs has also increased. Thanks to some Indian and Chinese consumer technology brands, 4K Smart TVs have become affordable and are one of the most competitive segments these days.
Latest entrant in the 4K Smart TV market is the German brand Blaupunkt. Popular for speakers and soundbars majorly, the company has launched a 4K Smart TV in India. The TV comes in four different screen sizes: 32-inch, 42-inch, 43-inch and 55-inch. The last model is priced at Rs 40,999 and offers a 60 watt speaker. We spent some time with the 55-inch screen variant and here’s the review
Blaupunkt 55-inch 4K TV (55CSA7090) comes with a minimalistic look with thin borders. What grabs your eyes is the silver lining present at the bottom chin of the TV. It brings elegance to the overall design of the TV. The lining has Blaupunkt branding on it.
The smart TV has a plastic body. It comes with a wall mount as well as table stand out-of-the-box. So that saves you from buying the stand separately. Having said that we would like to add that the table stand is not metallic but features plastic built.
All ports are placed on the rear side of the smart TV. It is equipped with 2 x HDMI ports, 1 x HDMI (Arc), 1 ethernet port, 2 x USB ports and an antenna port. What’s missing is the 3.5mm headphone jack (in case you want to connect it with a speaker using wire) and a RCA port.
Blaupunkt 55-inch 4K TV (55CSA7090) comes with an unusually tall remote. We can safely say that the neat design of the TV is not at all replicated in the remote. Although it comes with hotkeys for YouTube, Netflix, Google Play and Google Assistant, there are plenty of other keys like number pads, media control and others.
The remote works over Bluetooth connectivity, so you need not point the remote at the TV directly to get things done. We did not face any connectivity issues with the remote.
Blaupunkt 55-inch (55CSA7090) smart TV is a 4K TV, meaning it has a screen resolution of 3840×2160. The display has a refresh rate of 60Hz and a peak brightness of 550 nits. It comes with support for HDR and HDR 10+, so can most of the content available on Netflix, Hotstar and other streaming apps.
The smart TV offers multiple picture profiles to choose from- Vivid, Movie, Sports, Standard. One can also optimize contrast, brightness and other display features as per their choice. We generally had the Movie mode on because we found the skin tones and colours more accurate in this mode.
Viewing angles on the smart TV are good with decent picture quality. The brightness levels are adequate too. The TV comes with a dynamic backlight feature, so it automatically adjusts as per the scene. Another highlight is the motion estimation motion compensation (MEMC) technology on the Blaupunkt 4K Smart TV.
All in all, the overall viewing experience on the TV turns out to be average. The dark levels on the screen fall inadequate, especially for dark scenes. Also, local dimming on the TV could have been better. Dolby Vision support is also a miss on the Blaupunkt 4K Smart TV.
Blaupunkt 55-inch (55CSA7090) 4K smart TV is powered by a MediaTek chipset equipped with quad-core Cortex-A53 processor. It offers 2GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage capacity. The overall performance of the TV is lag-free. We did not face any stutter while brushing through the apps on it.
It is an Android TV and runs on Android version 10. It is equipped with popular streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video, LiveTV, YouTube, YouTube Music and FaceBook Watch. The smart TV comes with access to Google Play Store. So a user can download apps and games of one’s choice on the TV. User interface or the UI is clean and easy to navigate through.
The TV allows one to cast contents from a smartphone. It works with both Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay. The feature worked well without any hiccups or something. Another feature of the TV is the Quick Wake which can resume content on the TV from where you left.
The smart TV offers 60 watt speakers enabled with both Digital Dolby and DTS TruSurround technologies. Undoubtedly, the audio levels are high. One can barely reach 50% of the volume levels. In terms of quality too, the TV is not at all a huge disappointment. Sound is clear and largely distortion-free. Once the DTS Sound feature is enabled, it adds to the overall audio quality of the TV.
Blaupunkt 55-inch (55CSA7090) 4K smart TV is priced at Rs 40,999. With a neat design and a 60 watt speaker system with Digital Dolby and DTS TruSurround, the TV does make a good case for itself. The display may not be the best out there, but it is not bad either. If the price tag of Rs 40,999 is above budget, one may opt for the smaller screen models of the TV. One compromise that buyers will have to make with the 43-inch variant is that it ships with 50 watt speaker system and there’s Android 9 on the 32-inch model.
