Smartwatch is one such product segment that has witnessed huge growth in the pandemic era. There is hardly any major smartphone player that does not have at least one offering in this category. Realme entered the Indian smartwatch market in 2020 with the launch of Realme Watch at Rs 3,999.
Realme Watch 2 Pro is the company’s latest smart wearable device. The smartwatch comes with a square-shaped dial and boasts of features heart rate tracking and blood oxygen monitoring. The new device carries a price tag of 4,999. Here’s our review of Realme Watch 2 Pro
Realme Watch 2 Pro: Design and display
Realme Watch 2 Pro comes with a standard design. There is a square-shaped dial that is slightly raised above the platform. There is a home button placed on the right side. The button has a shiny accent with a yellow-colour line swiping it at the centre.
The smartwatch comes with thick bezels, especially at the chin. While the dial appears bigger in size, the smartwatch offers a standard colour display of 1.75-inch. The screen comes with 320×385 pixel resolution. Despite not being an AMOLED, the colours on the screen are vibrant. Realme Watch 2 Pro has five levels of brightness- 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. While it depends on a user’s comfort, a moderate 60% brightness was sufficient for me to use the smartwatch for both indoor and outdoor usage.
Coming to the touch response on the Realme Watch 2 Pro, it is strictly average. The display at times does not respond to the touch in the first go, so you have to give it a second and even third try to get things done.
Realme Watch 2 Pro comes with a silicone strap. It is soft and comfortable on your skin. You can easily wear it for long hours without any problem. The smartwatch weighs 40 grams which is a bit on the heavier side.
Realme Watch 2 Pro: Performance
As we have already mentioned, the touch response of the Realme Watch 2 Pro is not very impressive. Another thing that we did not like much about the smartwatch is that it gives you limited action to react to your smartphone’s notifications. You cannot respond to messages or even calls for that matter with a quick reply message. Some smartwatches in this segment offer this functionality. Also, the smartwatch will notify you about an incoming phone on your smartphone but you cannot answer the call. You can either reject or silence notifications for a call.
With the lukewarm response of the screen, you automatically go to the button placed on the right edge of the smartwatch. It is a multi-function button that brings you back to the Home screen and can also act as a back button to return to a previous menu.
The raise to wake feature works fine. Users will also get Find My Phone functionality on Realme Watch 2 Pro. The smartwatch was quick to find the paired smartphone. We used the smartwatch to record physical activities. It can auto-detect an activity when you workout, but fails to end it. One can use the Realme Link app to get workout data and track it.
The smartwatch currently offers a handful of activity modes like outdoor run, outdoor cycle, outdoor walk, jump rope, badminton and others. Then there is yoga as well. Realme says that it can support up to 90 sports modes but that will be available via an OTA update.
The heart rate sensor works fine and gives accurate results. Realme Watch 2 Pro can also be used to track blood oxygen levels. The readings were normal. There was no drastic change in the readings. Make sure the fit is tight, else the smartwatch will not be able to measure SpO2 readings. The smartwatch also offers sleep monitoring with more insights on sleep quality in the Realme Link app.
Other functionalities available on the Realme Watch 2 Pro are alarm, weather, timer and stopwatch. You can control music using it. There is also a camera control feature which basically allows the user to click photos using the smartwatch with the camera app opened on the phone. It will not show the camera screen of your phone on the smartwatch, but only a plain screen with a camera icon which when clicked will click photos.
Realme Watch 2 Pro : Battery
The smartwatch is equipped with a 390mAh battery. It comes with a disc-shaped charger with pogo pins that can fully charge the Realme Watch 2 Pro in an hour and few minutes.
Once fully charged, the smartwatch can easily offer about 15 days which is pretty much what Realme claims. This is for an average user that includes about 30 minutes of daily workout and constant heart-rate monitoring along with basic smartwatch functions. Overall, the battery life is an impressive feature of the Realme Watch 2 Pro.
Summing up, Realme Watch 2 Pro has a long battery life, a bright display and a basic health tracking feature with accurate results. What does not work in its favour is the display touch response and limited functionality in terms of notifications. For a price tag of Rs 5,000, Realme Watch 2 Pro can be a good choice for those looking for a health-tracking device with large screen and long battery life.
